The objective of this chapter is to get you started using WebLogic Server. Various ways and aspects of installing the server are discussed for both Windows and Unix operating systems. Creating start scripts, along with starting and stopping the server, are also discussed. WebLogic Server 8 comes as an individual distribution and also bundled within the WebLogic Platform distribution. The WebLogic Platform distribution includes WebLogic Workshop, WebLogic Integration, WebLogic Portal, and WebLogic Platform Samples and Utilities (JRockit). Within this chapter, we address only the installation of WebLogic Server.
