This chapter has attempted to define the nature of PEAR. It has described its installation process, if needed, and how to use the PEAR Package Manager and the official website. Finally, it has shown how to use packages in applications.

PEAR is a helpful resource to all PHP developers in that it provides a way to keep developers from "reinventing the wheel" by providing a flexible framework to use in applications. It is hoped that this chapter has promoted and encouraged the use of this strategic community.
