Because the core developers of PHP knew how to install PHP on their systems well enough, the documentation was not very good for a long timesomething that is common with many open source projects.
Luckily, the situation is different now; installing PHP ismore or lesseasy nowadays, and the online manual is excellent. Therefore, this appendix sums up how to get PHP5, MySQL, and the modules used throughout this book installed, and then get started with PHP.
