1.6 The MySQL Mailing Lists

MySQL AB provides several mailing lists in various languages. You can use these lists to obtain information and help on all things related to MySQL. Messages that are sent to a list via email are distributed to each subscriber to the list. The general mailing list is a good way to ask questions and get answers. The list takes advantage of, and provides access to, the aggregate knowledge and experience of the subscriber base. More specific lists exist for purposes such as distributing announcements of new software releases.

The most important English language mailing lists are:

  • announce— This list is for announcements of new versions of MySQL and related programs. It is a moderated low-volume list to which all MySQL users should subscribe.

  • mysql— This is the main list for general MySQL discussion. Please note that some topics are better discussed on the more specialized lists. If you post to the wrong list, you might not get an answer.

  • win32— This list is for discussions about the MySQL software on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

  • mysqlcc— This list is for discussions about MySQL Control Center (MySQLCC), the MySQL graphical client.

  • myodbc— This list is for discussions about connecting to the MySQL server with ODBC.

  • java— This list is for discussions about MySQL Connector/J and using the MySQL server from Java programs.
