Chapter 5. Enterprise Application Design with WebLogic Server
by Saranathan Govindarajan
IN THIS CHAPTER
In this age of e-commerce revolution, most organizations want large-scale enterprise integration projects at Internet delivery time. Internet delivery time is driven by the day-to-day demand of the enterprise application to roll out into production at the shortest time possible, thereby enabling organizations to tap new markets, retain existing customers, and introduce innovative products and services ahead of the competition. Additionally, the products and services have to be delivered through multiple channels, such as Web-based systems and call center–based applications like automated interactive voice response system and a customer relationship system. The applications also require working with existing legacy applications and using the existing corporate data that resides in heterogeneous databases. As you can see, multichannel delivery coupled with Internet delivery time makes organizations concentrate a lot on architecting a suitable solution that's technically and financially viable.
In this chapter, we go over some of the common concepts for designing enterprise-class applications and how WebLogic Server can provide an effective and easy solution for the problems we face in enterprise application design and integration as mentioned here. Later in the chapter, we move on to discuss some of the design strategies and implementation methodologies available to J2EE architects. These are some of the best available and most adopted strategies for implementing the specific components that make up a multitier, multichannel enterprise application.
